In an end to end game, West Meon opened confidently and their strong midfield unit quickly overran the Alton defence leaving the home team free to score in the first quarter.
Alton rallied and reorganised and took advantage of a strong run down the left to see the captain Ross send a swift pass which was converted to a goal with a deft touch by Anderson in her club debut. In spite of repeated forays into the circle by Footit and Chobbah, West Meon continued to dominate the midfield and scored a second goal from a recycled deflection off the Alton keeper.
The second half saw a more disciplined and effective Alton side step up and take more control of the game. Tight defensive marking allowed Blanchard to distribute the ball and Yeadon to push high with Kercher and Chinchin providing width and pace. Gates and Milner bridged the gap between Chatell in defence and the forward line allowing Ross to score from a well timed cross by Footit.
In the last quarter, Wallace and Yeadon held up the attack, allowing Blanchard to repeatedly relieve the opposition of the ball. Great reflexes from keeper Jinadasa held the score at 2-2 and the persistence of the defence paid off until a lone run by a West Meon attacker with no available support was converted to a goal with a zinging shot past Jinadasa.
